My son has suffered for many years with constant ear infections, horrible green and smelly gunk coming out of his ear which caused him so much upset, pain and being picked on at school for his ‘yucky ear’. That was until we met the wonderful Ms Neumann! My son had many weeks off school and many, many appointments at the doctors surgery where it would be the same thing, antibiotics orally and drops in his ear which he hated! ....this went on for many years until my 9 year old son cried at having to go school with his ‘smelly ear’ that everyone made fun of him for. I stood my ground at a consultation with another consultant and stated that I would no longer just accept antibiotics and thank godness I did! Because my son was then taken for a CT Scan which showed an extensive area of infection that had collected behind his ear and was destroying the bone. His hearing had deteriorated so badly because he had just been given antibiotics for many years and then after the scan we were referred to the incredible Ms Neumann. Ms Neumann is without a doubt the most incredible surgeon, doctor and pioneer in her field! She had my son in within weeks, explained everything fully to me and my son. My son is only young but Ms Neumann made him feel so at ease and treated him with so much kindness that he was more excited than nervous about having his much needed surgery! Ms Neumann included my son in every discussion and explained everything fully to both of us. On the day of his surgery, Ms Neumann spoke to both of us and reassured us once again that everything was going to be ok. My son was in surgery for a few hours and as soon as he came round in recovery, Ms Neumann was there to speak to us and explain exactly what she had done and I was dumbfounded at the incredible and intricate work she had done! My sons scar is not visible at all! Ms Neumann ended up having to do more than expected but WOW!!! what an incredible, inspiring woman, surgeon and doctor this lady is!! She has changed not only my sons life with her incredible knowledge and talent but mine as well because, as any mother would know, seeing your child in pain and being picked on in school is so upsetting and now all that is in past! Ms Neumann has without a doubt changed my sons life! His hearing is better in the ear that Ms Neumann operated on compared to his other ear now! And he has never had a problem with the other ear! Phenomenal lady, phenomenal surgeon, phenomenal doctor and an absolute credit to the William Harvey hospital and the medical profession! So happy that this wonderful lady is now in charge of my sons care! Thank you Ms Neumann for making my little boy happy again!!!!! So thankful! X

Ms Neumann was excellent from start to finish, totally professional and my hearing is now better than I can ever recall, having suffered from ear problems since I was in primary school. Ms Neumann looked after me through 2 major operations, and I felt that I was in completely safe hands. I cannot thank her and her team at William harvey hospital enough

Passion, commitment, expertise, kindness, understanding, enthusiasm, resilience and inspiration are just a few of the superlatives that spring to mind when I think of Codruta. Thank you for all you have done, all that you continue to do and everything yet to come. I am incredibly lucky to have such an amazing individual looking after my health and well being. This wonderful woman needs to be cloned.

Ms Neumann was really professional and kind to our Son when he had ear surgery in July. She is amazing at her job and is a true professional and expert in her field. Ms Neumann has such a wonderful manner and made our Son feel at ease and laugh during his appointments with her, before and after his Surgery. I know Drs receive such bad publicity with regards to their attitude towards patients, but Ms Neumann is a total exception she is thoroughly lovely and really knows how to speak to children, patients and the parents. I cannot fault her at all and personally there is nothing that you can change about her as she is an outstanding Doctor.

Profile

After completing my basic surgical training on the South Coast, I have dedicated some time to research in ENT. For a year I worked in the world renowned Sanger Institute in Cambridge, studying the genetics of age related hearing loss. I was then selected for Higher Specialist Training in Ear Nose and Throat Surgery in the East of England Rotation. This included training at prestigious university teaching hospitals such as Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. Through competitive entry I have been awarded the Cambridge Otology Fellowship. This is where I completed my sub-speciality training in complex otology (ear surgery), ear implantation (cochlear implants and other hearing implants) and balance disorders. I hold a Master of Science degree in Evidence Based Medicine and Health Technology Assessment.

I was appointed as an ENT Consultant with the East Kent Hospitals NHS Trust in Feb 2014 and I am now running a busy ENT general practice for children and adults, as well as a specialist practice for ear disorders and balance.

Since my appointment as a Consultant I continued to develop my expertise by visiting international centres of ENT excellence and maintaining close links with experts in the field, for example Prof Daniele Marchioni, in Verona, Italy and Prof John Dornhoffer in Arkansas, USA. I hold an Honorary Consultant appointment with the Southend Hospital where I perform complex reconstructive ear surgery alongside and train another Otology Consultant colleague.
I am passionate about teaching the new generation of surgeons and have been invited to join the faculty of ENT Masterclass, an organisation delivering ENT training for senior trainees and junior consultants in the UK and internationally. Click here for more information: www.entmasterclass.com. I also teach in the Advanced Cambridge Otology course (practical complex ear surgery course) and the Temporal Bone Dissection courses in Cambridge, Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in London.I am a founding member of the Anglo-Romanian Ear Surgery Course, held annually in Cluj, Romania, where I train ENT surgeons though hands on dissection and live surgery.

ENT UK, the professional body of Ear Nose and Throat Surgeons in the UK, has awarded me the International Otology Travelling Fellowship for 2018 as recognition to the high quality service provided to my patients and my dedication to improvement of my surgical skills. This enabled me to spend two weeks with Prof Erwin Offeciers and his world renowned team of ear surgeons in Antwerp, Belgium, learning a novel technique for reconstructive ear surgery.

I am committed to ensuring that my patients get the best treatment available, supported by the latest research in the field. I am an active researcher and for my work I won the Xomed-Treace prize and a pump priming grant with the Otorhinolaryngology Research Society. I have run a trial for transtympanic steroid injections (injections through the ear drum) for Meniere’s disease patients. I currently run studies for necrotising otitis externa and sudden sensorineural hearing loss.
